A stylish fusion of retro old school aesthetics and contemporary running shoe design and technology, the Nike Air Max Tavas will not disappoint its wearers. The Air Max unit at the back helps cushion impact and absorb shock while the printed canvas and mesh material delivers a stylish look to the sneaker.

While some buyers have complained that these Nike Air Max kicks need a short break-in to feel comfy, it sure does satisfy the needs of wearers regarding comfort, pricing, and a lightweight feel.

Fit & Sizing

The Nike Air Max Tavas sneaker runs true to size and fits mostly those with narrow to wide feet. The casual running shoes are secured by regular flat laces that keep the tongue and the rest of the shoe snugly fitted. It has a removable insole that can easily be replaced with orthotic inserts for those with pronation issues. Sizes for the sneaker starts from US size 6 to 16 for men and 5 to 12 for women.

Nike Air Max Tavas Style

Releasing mostly under the radar compared to the much-hyped Nike Air Max Zero, the Nike Air Max Tavas casual running shoe assures most of its wearers that not many have been sporting them on their feet. Nevertheless, the Air Max Tavas sneakers should be taken seriously as it comes packed with beautiful aesthetic elements like no-sew synthetic overlays, breathable mesh upper, and often contrasting midsole.

For most of its wearers, the Nike Air Max Tavas running shoes are the perfect kicks to wear during the spring, summer and fall months as most of its drops were aimed mostly for these seasons. Coming in new colorways, wearers of the silhouette get to have an option to choose designs from subtle to brightly colored sneakers.

The low-top lifestyle-running sneaker is a perfect companion for urban commute, travel, walks in the mall or park, and even grocery runs for the family. The men’s Nike Air Max Tavas shoes are best paired with joggers, leggings, skinny denim jeans, and above the ankle track pants. The women’s Nike Air Max Tavas can be worn with denim skirts, leggings, joggers, track pants, and skinny jeans. Buyers of this shoe may choose tops like shirts, tank tops, and hoodies that blend well with spring and fall-ready colorways of the Nike Air Max Tavas running shoes.

Notable Features

The Nike Air Max Tavas’ most recognizable features are its slimmed-down profile because of the use of no-sew mesh on the upper with synthetic overlays that are smooth and often seamless as compared to most conventional Air Max designs.

The synthetic overlays do not come with stitching on the upper mesh material making the model more lightweight and breathable. The entire upper sits on the soft foam midsole that has a visible Air Max cushioning unit at the back for impact and shock absorption.

Nike Air Max Tavas History

The first Nike Air Max shoe was dropped more than 30 years ago, but its stylish silhouette, signature visible air unit, and comfortable feel is here to stay. The original Nike Air Max was designed by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield who also designed most of the iconic Air Jordan shoes we see today.

Hatfield in his handy sketchbook drew the prototype for the air-cushioned running shoe in Oregon after a recent trip in Paris. Hatfield was inspired by the Center Pompidou and its inside-out design which he rendered in a shoe by exposing the air max unit instead of the usual hidden Nike Air technology that was invented and patented by the Swoosh brand employee M. Frank Rudy and was launched in 1979.

The Nike Air Max shoe uses a large visible Air Max cushioning unit at the heel which during the time of its release in 1987 was deemed futuristic and even advanced for its time. The Nike Air Max 1 then had nylon and synthetic textile in the upper with a soft foam midsole encapsulating the visible air unit at the heel.

Since the drop of the first Nike Air Max shoes, several bestselling designs have released including the Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Max 95, Nike Air Max 97, Nike Air Max Zero, Nike Vapormax, and the Nike Air Max 270. Nike Air Max Day is also celebrated every March 26th coinciding with the first release date of the iconic running shoe. It is also the time when the most anticipated and highly coveted colorways, special editions, collaborations, and new designs of the Air Max line are unveiled to the public.

In 2014, the Swoosh brand introduced the Nike Air Max Tavas casual running shoe. Release in time for the holidays in December 2014, the casual running shoe combines style elements from previous models to form a slimmer body with a modern look but retaining the comfort and durability of the classic Air Max sneaker.

Nike Air Max Tavas colorways

The first colorway for the Nike Air Max Tavas was a blend of Grey Mist/Flash Lime/Armory Slate/Obsidian colors on the mesh, synthetic front paneling, and perforated suede heel paneling. Hits of flash lime are displayed on the Swoosh and branded panel logo, soft inner lining, and air bubble insert that sits on top of a thick white midsole.

The second¬†colorway¬†that came out for the Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†sneaker was a contrast more subdued¬†Grey Mist/Flash Lime¬†color¬†of the first release. The brightly¬†colored¬†Air Max¬†Tavas¬†‚ÄúGreen Glow‚Ä̬†comes in a¬†Green Glow/Black-Mint-Emerald Green¬†color¬†palette that¬†visually¬†pops out of¬†the¬†foot by the time you put it on.¬†

In 2015, the Nike Air Max Tavas came out in more exciting colorways. First to come out is the more subdued Neutral Grey/Dark Grey/Anthracite/Bright Crimson colorway. It was followed by the striking University Red colorway where the model is splashed with varying red hues in the upper and sole with a contrast Black Swoosh logo.

In time for spring months, the Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†in Green Glow¬†color¬†option was dropped anew in time for St. Patrick‚Äôs Day (Easter) season. The shoe¬†was rendered¬†in varying shades of green¬†from Light Green to Emerald Green. Another Spring/Summer offering is the Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†‚ÄúTriple White‚Ä̬†with a well-ventilated mesh¬†material all over the¬†all-white upper.¬†The¬†high¬†ventilation¬†of the all-white sneaker¬†is¬†provided¬†by the breathable mesh material¬†along the toe, tongue,¬†and¬†heel¬†resulting¬†in¬†a¬†lightweight and breathable¬†low-top kick.¬†

Other¬†colorways¬†that¬†were released¬†in 2015 include Flash Lime/Obsidian and Black/White. A special edition¬†colorway¬†was also released¬†with the Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†SE in Gym Red. The summer months¬†were welcomed¬†with the stunning Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†‚ÄúSunset‚ÄĚ comprising a¬†colorful¬†upper of purple,¬†blue, pink, and orange hues that replicates a sunset. The¬†mesh upper with synthetic overlays¬†and¬†suede heel¬†sits on top of a white midsole for contrast.¬†The silhouette¬†was also featured¬†in an Air Max Essentials rendition. The Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†Essentials¬†were rendered¬†in Black, Midnight Navy,¬†and¬†Dark Obsidian/Bright Crimson.¬†

The 2015 colorway releases of the Nike Air Max Tavas continued with several color options dropping in stores like the Rio Orange/Dark Obsidian, Blue Lagoon, and Carbon Green. The Nike Air Max Tavas Neon was also released with colors resembling that of the Air Max 95.

For fall 2015, other colors were also launched that include the Nike Air Max Tavas in  All-Black with a white-speckled midsole, a Nike Air Max Tavas Red colorway with Burgundy midsole and inner lining and heel counter,  and a Nike Air Max Tavas Blue colorway with Navy tones used in the heel counter and lining.

More colorways were also dropped in stores in 2016. The year started with the Nike Air Max Tavas in Pure Platinum, and Cargo Khaki released in January of that year. A bright Nike Air Max Tavas in University Red was also released in January 2016.

Other colors that came out in 2016 include the Cargo Khaki, Night Maroon, and Rio Teal. Also released in that same year are the Pure Platinum and Mint Green Nike Air Max Tavas SE. Grid detailing was also done on the upper of the Nike Air Max Tavas Print. A cubic pattern-printed top rendition was predominantly rendered on the upper composed of breathable mesh and synthetic overlays. The cubic and grid detailing continued for the Nike Air Max Tavas Print with white and grey colorways.

Spring/Summer 2016 was welcomed with the release of the Nike Air Max Tavas in Cool Grey, Action Red, and Midnight Navy colorways. The Autumn months welcomed new colorways for the Air max variant. The Nike Air Max Tavas was dressed in a mix of olive and dark golden hue across its lightweight mesh and synthetic upper. Another autumn colorway release that year is the Nike Air Max Tavas in Grove Green. For the last quarter of 2016, the Nike Air Max Tavas was delivered in a combination of no-sew mesh and Hyperfuse upper material in predominantly black color with white accents on branding details.

In 2017, only one¬†colorway¬†was dropped¬†called the Nike Air Max¬†Tavas¬†‚ÄúParamount Blue.‚ÄĚ It features a White, Black, and paramount Blue¬†colors¬†in the taped mesh upper with reflective 3M underlays in the perforated detailing of the heels.¬†

Many Air Max fans consider the Nike Air Max Tavas as an underrated shoe that launched without much hype. The often under the radar colorway releases also did not help it to become a highly coveted Nike Air Max. But despite the lack of hype, many of its avid users attest to its extreme comfort, slimmer profile, breathable and lightweight design to be worthy of another release in the coming years.
